I love eating, too! I used to try to ggo to all the multicultural restaurants around Flushing before I became a vegetarian. I do love miso soup and if you know any good places to get some around here (15 min distance, please) I would love your recommendation! I'll teach you Korean if you teach me Chinese, although I'm pretty sure that you don't do Mando. Maybe Taiwanese?
I like to say that New York is a food capital of the world (which for many types it is), although I've had a very hard time finding good Chinese food, surprisingly. Most of them are decent, but not spectacular. I'm open for suggestions!
The only other Asian language I know is Mandarin, in fact. But my Mandarin is actually is only okay. Enough to get by, as I say, although my reading has definitely improved over the years. I did spend this summer in Taipei studying Chinese, so it's still relatively fresh. My Taiwanese is non-existent. I only know three phrases, "hello," "it's delicious" (that's very important), and "I told you so!"
I'm also open for suggestions for Japanese food. Unfortunately most Japanese restaurants are so expensive, especially the good ones like Nobu. I also want to find a great place for tempura.
この食は東京のです。 1は天ぷらです。 It was a small restaurant recommended by my friend from Tokyo, in the Shinjuku area called つなはち本店. It was so amazing, but such a long line!
2と3は豆腐です。
4はとんかつです (deep-fried pork chop)。There's a really famous place in Tokyo called とんかつまい泉 that was really delicious.
